Bloom & Bone is a one-of-one cream suede cap — hand-burned, hand-painted, and finished with a hand-strung pearl beaded band in pink and burgundy.
A skull in three-quarter view, softened by a pink wild rose in full bloom. Green leaves cascading down the side of the crown. Nothing loud, nothing heavy — just a small reminder that beautiful things and finite things live in the same body.
Bloom & Bone — the name
Two words that carry the whole piece. The bloom is the rose. The bone is the skull. One is soft and alive, the other is quiet and permanent. They belong to each other.
Skulls in art almost always mean the same thing — memento mori, remember you're mortal. But this one isn't heavy about it. It's just a nudge. A little reminder to enjoy the bloom while it's here.
The making of
Four hours in the studio. The skull came first — burned line by line with a fine wood-burning tip, no stencils. Anatomy is unforgiving; the eye sockets, the teeth, the angle of the jaw all have to sit right or the whole thing looks off. This one took its time.
The wild rose went in beside it, then the leaves cascading down the side. The rose was painted soft — pale pink petals with a warmer center, so it reads as delicate against the bone.
The beaded band
The strap is a hand-strung band of pink and burgundy pearls with soft pink stone accents. I made it specifically for this cap — the pinks echo the rose, and the burgundy grounds it so the whole thing feels finished rather than sweet.
Who this hat is for
Made for someone with an edge that isn't loud. Someone who wears beauty and darkness in the same outfit — and doesn't feel the need to explain either one. Someone who thinks skulls are kind of pretty, actually. Someone who's read a poem more than once because they liked how it felt.
